Progress!

So, Herculine makes a post over on her blog. I try to comment.

I am informed I cannot; for you see, I have not joined the holy G+. I have not "upgraded" because in doing so it crams every iota of data Google can scour from the web about you into one easy to abus-I mean peruse listing; collates all your data to sell to whoever they please; and makes some changes to Picasa, but does not specify anywhere that I could find what exactly those changes are.

Look. I don't want to be an easy to find profile; listing every account I have, my search histories, my uploaded images, my blogs. If I want shit cross-linked, I will do the linking.

I do not want to post under my "real name". If I liked my real name, I wouldn't be fucking posting as Nos. Sadly, however, I do engage in some semi-official business with my Gmail account; and thus need a proper name attached to it. Apparently this isn't going to fly much longer in Google's eternal quest to completely destroy privacy and compartmentalized lives, however.

On the bright side: almost no one actually reads this anymore; and no one even notices me on the Nexus except when they need a mod fixed or a script written, so I can probably slip back into obscurity pretty easily.

Though I do wish I hadn't spent all that time this morning figuring out how to make up the pseudo-postcard in New Vegas (you wouldn't believe how much trouble it is to get a line of text arced to make a postmark) since I'm not in the mood to actually post it anymore. Probably need to be in the other room working on designing that FNX45 holster, anyway...

  1. Well, if I'd known it was going to cause a conundrum I never would've messed with the G+ deal to begin with. I'm currently working on disassociating myself from the Collective (which may be easier said than done) and I apologize for any inconveniences my assimilation has caused.

    1. Second post as an afterthought:

The above comment was not intended to sound snarky (though it seemed so even to me as I looked back at it); it was merely me being my usual whimsical self.

I kinda already knew that the G+ thing would probably put me on a ton of e-mailing lists that I didn't want to be on, but Google already does that every time I read an e-mail anyway so I figured what the hell...

    2. Meh, you're entitled to some snark.

I probably came across as bitching about you rather than Google; which is of course not true, but I've been up since yesterday was today and today was tomorrow and after the day I've had I don't have the wherewithal to delete or rewrite my bitchy post.

On the up side, I now know I can still walk five miles without having to stop to rest.

  2. I have an idea on how you feel Nos, as I have never been one to let folks know that I even exist. That said, I didn't even have an option to comment on Herculine's blog until I "whitelisted" it on Ghostery. The fact that Ghostery will block Google+ speaks volumes to me about it. I also was asked to sign up to G+ before being allowed to post a comment. No offense to Herculine, but no, not going to happen. Google may now (or soon) have a headquarters here in the city I live in, but that doesn't mean I will blindly follow them.

It was nice to hear out of you both though, as I was beginning to worry.

I'm still around; I've just mostly stopped posting. Nobody seems interested in details about any mod I'm not planning on uploading in the immediate future, so I figured why spend several hours typing the posts out and organizing screenshots?

    2. Yeah, I can understand that. It is sort of like only talking to yourself, and then getting tired of hearing your own voice. At least, that is the way it seems in my head o.O

    3. Since these initial postings I've done what I can to disentangle myself from the G+ snare; if neither of you are able to post comments on my beloved blog at the time of this comment then I may have to do some further investigating.

    5. Yeah, I commented too; though I feel a little guilty about making you go to all that trouble...

    6. It was no trouble. When I clicked that Google+ button I was under the impression that it would have some sort of benefits; locking everyone out of my blog was hardly what I was looking for.
