Crushed!

Checked NCCS' comments the other day, as I do once or twice a day. Happened to notice the endorsements were sitting at 301.

I'm pretty sure that's what AP pulls in in an average hour, and it took my crappy mod almost two years to break 300 but hey; whatever.

Was checking comments just now after I got home, and it's back down to 300. Someone actually unendorsed the mod.

Guess I'm not being helpful enough or something.

  1. One can un-endorse a mod? Typical for today's indecisive youth, I suppose.

    1. You can. After endorsing a mod, the button's label should change to "un-endorse". Hit it again and your endorsement is pulled, and the tally drops by one.

  2. Only 300 endorsements? Wow, I'm sorry to hear that Nos. NCCS should most definitely have more than that! If I could somehow endorse it again, I would. I have developed a great respect for you and your work, from learning about the mods progress here on the blog and from seeing your willingness (and Herculine's) to help users that need it.

I guess I am just one of the "great minority" in that respect though... :(

    1. Definite minority.

I can't speak for Herculine, but for ~95% of the people I've helped out with various Fallout-related problems? I only know when the fix worked because I never hear from them again.

S'why I don't give out modding help anymore beyond pointing people to the wiki(s). Spend two to four hours collating and typing out modding tips and practices for best results... and I never hear from the person again.

'Least you and Ms. Neko stick around and let me know whether shit works.

  3. Proper feedback is something we need to continue working on our projects that we share with the public. Even if it is something like "Thanks that worked" is something I like to hear from when I have helped someone with a problem. Admittedly, just about all the help I have supplied is for a mod that isn't mine, but still... If people are not going to let you know if you have done something right (or wrong in some cases), you are going to start thinking that you do not have an audience, and eventually pack it in.

I think it is nice to get downloads, or read/views in the case of my rare comic episodes. It is even better when those people take the time to give feedback, constructive criticism, or better yet, endorsements. A combination of all three of those would be fantastic, but I realize that in most cases, that just won't happen. It seems that the only people that will give the feedback you need to continue on with a project are the ones that are working on projects of their own. The ratio of those with projects to those without is so low, as to be almost non-existent.

This little bit of ranting/venting from me might be stemming from the fact that right now, I am seriously getting to work on my Resident Evil project, and I am bracing myself for a fair bit of bitching/whining/complaining and trolling...

  4. Random question but did you ever play Morrowind?

    1. I have. One of these days I'm actually going to finish it, too...

    2. Played Morrowind for... twenty minutes?

Got through character creation and intro and whatnot and out into the wilderness; attempted to fight a... mudcrab, I think? And seventy-two consecutive misses later someone resembling me may have muttered "fuck this shit" and gone back to Oblivion.

If I want to have my hits determined by dice roll, I'll play NWN.

    3. Just could not roll that 11 to hit huh. Been trying to get into it (with the help of mods. Thinking of putting it a no miss mod). Thought I would ask since I have kept following you since....ages ago.

    4. Well, in defense of both myself and Morrowind: this was in late '06/early '07 when I was big into Oblivion -- I thought if I liked TESIV so much, trying out III may have been in order. No one ever mentioned what different combat styles they have.

I've read since that you mitigate the missing with agility and skill points for the specific weapon(s) you use; but I've never revisited the game since frankly most of the lore reads to me like someone tried to transcribe their acid trip.

For modding specifics, our own Miss Herculine would be the one to ask. As I recall, she modded the game extensively; and is very familiar with the process. Aside from that, Knots' Guide is generally accepted as the modding guide. Don't have a link, but it's pretty popular so a little Google-fu should turn it up pretty quick.

    5. I'd recommend looking at the "Adventures In Morrowind" blog for links to many lists of mods.

While looking at those, you should also stumble upon several tutorials on installing the stuff.

And yes, Google-fu will also do wonders.
