The Cup Runeth Over

"I tried to install your latest update 5.5 but my game will not even start. It opens the title page which starts to scroll but you never get control of the screen so you can’t start the game. The curser never appears. I had to go back to the previous version to get the game running again.
I think it may have been too much of a shock to the game, removing and replacing the Guards and all the prisoner stuff at once.
I don’t mind as I said before having one naked guard in the tunnels, the thing that worries me is I cannot install any new RR updates in the future if they are based on the 5.5 one as my game won’t start."

They bitch when I don't fix something. Then they bitch when I do fix it, and all because no one will clean their damned save.

You know what? Hell with it. I'm gonna go play something else.

Also: my prediction of having a week before the bitching started? Yeah, seems I was off by about six and a half days.

  1. Hello, been watching for about a weeksih now and have to say your guides have helped me learn more of modding then most other sites.

As for people who do bitch yeah that is a pain in the ass. Yet even with all the idiots who fail to read and testing stuff before they poke you I do want to thank you for your hard work both with the guides, blog, mods and also finding somehow to deal with people's whines when things don't go there way and never want to learn why.

  2. I wouldn't mind so much... I know what it's like to love a concept, but have the mod not work...

...but when someone finds something wrong with every version of the mod, and will NOT listen to how to fix it...

I dunno. How many times can you tell someone "I can't reproduce your problem, so I can't fix it" before you just snap and give in to the urge to call their lineage into question?

One guy's been complaining now for like five months. I don't think I even got one version that wasn't OMG IT DOESNT WORK!!! in some way.

Considering there are 113,000+ downloads on the RR series, I must be doing something fairly well... it's just that overly vocal minority.

  3. I say you are doing a great job to be getting so many hits off the series. I know even if I sit down and do a ton of modding I won't get that many hits but I rather sit down and work on quest as I really think Fallout could use some but I also have a feeling that will take me a few months to really get going.

If they keep complaining and it is only a small handful it must be they are not reading things or have so many mods it is messing up the other one I think off hand.

Funny you always find a few bad apples in the group which have the same problems even if you give them to do lists of what to do and how to do it. Guess some people just love going out of there way to tell you it is not working and demand you fix it even if it is a 1 in 100000 type of problem.

You could always go I demand screen shots but i am sure they would not do that or tell you they can't

  4. Screenshots might help, but I found out this morning that the most vocal of the group has been running the same game - save uncleaned - for something on the order of six months, and refuses to clean it because it "runs great".

    Obviously not that great...

FO3 savegame corruption aside, what do you DO in a game with that many hours logged on it? My highest game went to the mid 90's in hours and by then I had done pretty much everything that could be done. Had all the weapons, all the quests, armor, money, bobbleheads... One would assume you'd eventually get bored and want something to work towards again.

    At least, I would.

But then again, as I've said before, you guys only see about one version in ten of the RRCompanionVault that I test and work on... so between scripting revisions and NPC changes and whatnot I tend to break savegames regularly.

  5. Heh I am not sure, I have yet to really beat the game myself but just picked it up again not tooo long ago.

Only game I have put in around 90 hours was a gamecube game and I wanted max stats but I am not sure what you can do with fallout 3 over and over once you beat it and do all the dlc's games as really they are only about one or two hours.

Why not show us what other parts you do and other games? I would love to see the other games you play with be it just normal playing or coding even.

  6. Well, I find mods extend the interesting-ness of games like Fallout 3 immensely. Companions to recruit, weapons to collect, clothing to check out; pose mods and house mods and AI changes... there's just so much you can do to make it a new game on any given play-through. It's actually to the point in my games that other than getting GNR back up and running, I rarely bother with the vanilla content - it's all so boring and shoddy compared to several of the mods I run. You know, truth be told, once I worked the kinks out of the RR companion system, I've got no use whatsoever for the game's included followers like Clover and Charon. They're just so limited and boring and ugly.

While I am flattered (and more than a bit worried about your sanity...) that you're interested in my gaming life... it's pretty boring, these days.

In years gone by, I played a dozen or more games at any given time, but here lately the vast majority of my free time to game is eaten by the modding. If I'm not playing tech support monkey on the Nexus, I'm either writing new code, testing new code, or looking for screenshot opportunities. Don't get to just play very often. Also do some secondary tech support for Fry's Refurbished addon for the RR Companions Vault, and try to make it a point to endorse and comment on any other mod I download and like.

Got a fresh Oblivion install, and have been applying some of the things I've learned in working on Fallout 3 to my old CM companions, and they're looking much sharper. In fact, if you keep an eye on my Picasa account, you'll see I've added an Oblivion folder, and have been dropping screenshots into it now and again over the last couple weeks. Planning to get a post up about that stuff... but I've got to find time and all.

Other than that, the only games I really still play are Sins of a Solar Empire and Call of Duty 4 - both unmodded, save for a botmatch enabled for CoD since I don't like playing with the twelve year olds that pervade the CoD4 public servers. Damned bunnyhopping twits.

My system is fairly sucky, and I can't play much in the way of new games. Been interested in Dragon Age, and the new(er) ARMA, but don't think I have the horsepower to play them decently. MAG sounds interesting too, but I haven't picked it up to even look at the requirements yet. Odds are bad on my being able to run it.

Tried picking up WoW three times now, and have never made it even a whole month in. I just can't deal with having to play out around the autistic chimps that infest every server. That and it's the same five quests ad nauseam.

Still occasionally get it in my head to play a game of Galactic Civilizations 2 when I'm in the mood to extend my brutality to an entire galaxy, but that turn-based stuff is so slow that I really have to be in the mood for it.

Did mod for Neverwinter Nights years ago, but never got any of it to the point of ready for release.
